Dear Uncle, I strongly disagree.

An e-mail my uncle forwarded to me this morning, sadly, I think several of my relatives are of the same opinion, including my father.

'Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damages morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, quickly tried and hanged!!!"
33 Senators Voted Against English as America's Official Language on June 6, 2007.

On Wed. 6 June 2007, Colonel Harry Riley , USA , Ret. wrote:

Your vote against an amendment to the immigration Bill 1348.... to make English America's official language is astounding.

On D-Day, no less, when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock, character and principles of America , I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens.

I don't much care where you come from. What your religion is. Whether you're black, white, or some other color...male or female......Democrat, Republican or Independent...... But I do care when you are a United States Senator representing Citizens of America ...and Vote against English as the official language of the United States .

Your vote reflects Betrayal. Political Surrender. Violates Your Pledge of Allegiance. Dishonors historical principle. Rejects Patriotism. Borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator...impeachment... Recall..Or other appropriate action is warranted, or worse.

Four of you voting against English as America 's Official Language are Presidential Candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd and Senator Obama.
(Now we have the Democrat ticket: Obama/Biden that figures!)

Four Senators trying to lead America, but won't, or don't, have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America's Official Language when 91% of American Citizens want English officially designated as our language.

This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators has disgraced themselves as 'political Hacks'..... Unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualified to serve as President of the United States .

If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a backlash so stunning it will literally 'rock you out of your socks'... And preferably totally out of the United States Senate.

The entire immigration bill is a farce... Your action only confirms this really isn't about America ... it is about self-serving politics......despicable at best. It has been said: 'Never Argue with an Idiot....They'll drag you down to their level!'

Don't forget about PRESIDENT LINCOLN's words:
'Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damages morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, quickly tried and hanged!!!"

Meanwhile, one of the people that I supervise called to say he would be late this morning because he has to go withdraw his money from a bank, yet another, that is failing. Good thing the republicans are saying that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy are strong, or I would be really worried and wouldn't have time to ponder the really important issues that the U.S. is facing, such as whether English is our official language.

Ich wollte es gerade sagen: Gibt es nicht wirklich momentan ernsthaftere Probleme, als die Frage, was die "offizielle" Sprache der USA ist??? Was soll der Quatsch überhaupt? Und - wozu braucht man da überhaupt sowas wie ein "Gesetz" dafür?
Aber hier ist's nicht anders. Unnötige Zeitverschwendung für unnötigen Quatsch an allen ecken und Enden... ;)

Judy, in this time of war, oh excuse me, "conflict' don't you think it's traitorous and unamerican to not have English the official language? I mean really, we could end up bilingual, like Canada. Yes, the same Canada, that along with England and Japan, are currently buying our financial institutes piecemeal. It's amazing the trivial arguments that come up to distract people from the real issues.

I mean that entirely ironically by the way. When 14% of the population speaks Spanish, that's some 34 million people, I think a bilingual nation is a good idea. I believe everyone should be required to study a second language. It really helps you understand your own language better as well.

Viele Sprachenzu sprechen ist was wunderbares. Ich spreche 3 Sprachen
1) Deutsch
2) Etwasenglisch

na denn Schwachsinnisch ist doch der wichtigsten.

Btw: There's only one country in the world that has German as its single official language - that's Liechtenstein. And it's the smallest of the German-speaking...

Yeah - it's always the same strategy...

I know that you meant it ironically. And Spanish is coming -well it's already there anyways. So no rule or whatever will ban it anyways...

And the thing with the second language: I strongly agree!!! It opens your mind.

@jirjen: Oh REALLY??? LOL that's funny *g*

Jirjen and Judy, German isn't the official language of Germany? Are you guys going to get stuck with Turkish ;P

Anonymous said...

That indeed might happen one day *ROFL*

German is ONE of the official languages in Germany.
There's also sorbian in parts of Brandenburg and Saxony.
There's Croatian, Slovene and Hungarian in Austri.
Of course e.g. Italian and French in Switzerland.
German's also official language in parts of Luxemburg and Belgium.

Jirjen, Spanish is already the second most used language in the states, most government documents and services are already available in spnish and most product labeling and a lot of signange are also in spanish. I doubt that there is any danger of english being threatened but you know how people get.
