Cole slaw

I don't know what this is called in Germany, it's a salad made with shredded cabbage.
usually shredded carrots are added, I also always add shredded apple or pear, you can also throw in raisins and/or halved grapes. Geoff loves my dressing and asks me to make it at least once a week, it goes especially well with barbeque, and also just plain old grilled burgers and/or sausage.
I don't have exact measurements, I just make it, I do have a certain bowl that I always mix it in, maybe that's how I know how much of each thing to use. I have tried to tell Geoff how to do it, but he likes it better when I make it, shrug.
So, I start with sugar in the amount I deem necessary, I add curry powder to taste, a seasoning that we have here called lemon pepper, a pinch of salt and enough fresh ground pepper, white or black, that your hands are tired from grinding it. Then in an equal proportion to the sugar, more or less, vinegar. I prefer it to be mostly white vinegar with a splash of apple cider vinegar, or pear cider vinegar if you're using shredded pears, and a splash of rice wine vinegar, I don't know why, but it works. Add more fresh ground pepper, and then a little more, are your hands tired yet from grinding? No? Then add some more. Now add Mayonnaise until it's a nice consistency.
That's it, after afew tries you'll know how it works best for you.

I think it's "Krautsalat". But our cole slaw is usually just made from cabbage, without any kind of fruit.

I love Cole Slaw. It's way better than the German "Krautsalat". But I'm not able to prepare it myself properly - unfortunately. Maybe I should try once more.. ;)

Grouch, The carrot and fruit make it sweeter, i like that, especially for BBQ.

Günter, abgemacht, wenn ich je da komme.

Judy, this is one of the dishes that I can never eat at a resturaunt, it's just too disapointing. Give it a try, Geoff has me make it at least once a week. Anymore i make more tha needed so there will be some in the fridge for another day.
