More Religion

After a comment yesterday when I mentioned a certain american religious group, I thought I'd share another religious practice that takes place in some parts of America. Even though it is illegal in all but 1 of the 50 states.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. —Mark 16:17-18

They prefer to call themselves serpent, rather than snake handlers as they use only poisonous snakes in their religious services.

They are often associated with pentecostal or baptist sects but prefer to be thought of as non-denominational christians who follow the teachings of the king James version of the bible.

Here's a you tube video.

Es ist für mich immer wieder erstaunlich wie verschiedenartig die Bibel immer wieder interpretiert wird und wie viele unterschiedliche christliche Gruppen es gibt.

they don´t understand the concept of a metaphor do they? Even if you believe in the bible and all that goddamn you cannot take every word that seriously. I think this would also be forbidden in Europe but not because of the followers i think they´d ban it because it´s cruel to the animals. `m as always amazed about the supermarket of religions you got over there.

The religious past of America makes it easy to found your own religion. The first settlers and many that followed were religious outcasts in their own lands. Freedom pf religiom is an important tenant of the constitution. If your interpretation of the bible does not match that of someone elses you simply splinter off and start your own church. Tax free. If only they could accept that freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.
