Lars said...

Markus, genau.

my little brother also build a "teich" recently and there are some koi in it (again) i wonder if they will reach that size this time, last time he tried to put fish into that pond the neighbours cat got em all like Pokemon

Zing, it has to do with depth and the steepness of the pond walls. The fish have to be able to dive below the predators reach. Here we have the raccoons which are even more of a problem than cats. The pond walls need to be steep so the raccoons can't wade out into the pond, if they have nothing to stand on they can't catch the fish. One raccoon did figure out how to disconnect the line from the filter and all the water got pumped out of the pond and he got a fish. So far we haven't had a problem with Herons, other people have though.
