We spent Sunday and Monday at the beach. The surf isn't too scary if uncle is holding your hand, which is a little tough when the 3rd needs a hand too.
They took off for the return trip to Montana at 6:30 this morning. Too early, uncle still has to work today.
Tuesday
Unfortunately uncles only come equipped with 2 hands.

Saint Josephs day and San Juan Capistrano.
The mission in San juan Capistrano California.

As the little birds wing their way back to the most famous Mission in California, the village of San Juan Capistrano takes on a fiesta air and the visitors from all parts of the world, and all walks of life, gather in great numbers to witness the "miracle" of the return of the swallows. Each year the "Scout Swallows" precede the main flock by a few days and it seems to be their chief duty to clear the way for the main flock to arrive at the "Old Mission" of Capistrano. With the arrival of early dawn on St. Joseph's Day, the little birds begin to arrive and begin rebuilding their mud nests, which are clinging to the ruins of the old stone church of San Juan Capistrano. The arches of the two story, high vaulted Chapel were left bare and exposed, as the roof collapsed during the earthquake of 1812. This Chapel, said to be the largest and most ornate in any of the missions, now has a more humble destiny--that of housing the birds that St. Francis loved so well. After the summer spent within the sheltered walls of the Old Mission in San Juan Capistrano, the swallows take flight again, and on the Day of San Juan, October 23, they leave after circling the Mission bidding farewell to the "JEWEL OF ALL MISSIONS" San Juan Capistrano, California. | |

Damals, or, once upon a time
In 2003 Lars and Geoff took atrip to Germany, at Easter time. This entry is kind of dedicated to Chief Judy, she's looking forward to Oktoberfest but doesn't have a Dirndl to wear. I suggested a store in München where she could buy one, she wondered at how well I know Munich. I did spend 9 days at the hotel Deutsche Eiche in Munich and spent a lot of time wandering around, I also bought a Joppe.
the hat came from Salzburg. The Light over the dining room table came from meli-melo directly across the street from the Deutsche Eiche. Geoff was determined to buy a chandelier while we there, luckily I talked him into something less fancy than he was looking to buy.
Our first evening in München we found a concert by the Spielzeugmusee, Tal Consort, very enjoyable, and kind of a magical welcome to Munich. While we were there we took a couple of tours, one to Schloss Neuschwanstein, with a stop at Schloss Linderhof and Oberammergau, Geoff had to have a Kuckkucksuhr. We also made a side trip to Dachau and spent easter sunday in Salzburg. Good friday, Karfreitag, we spent at Schloss Nymphenburg and the neighboring botanical garden.
If anyone goes to Deutsche Eiche and sees Helmut, Reiner or Frank, the Kellners, tell them Hi from me. sadly, a german told me that Germans find it an insult to be tipped and I didn't tip for a couple of days. My guilt overcame me and I tried to make up for it, but I'll always feel bad about that.
